Buying Guide: What to Look for in a Portable Inverter Generator
Choosing the right inverter generator can be overwhelming, but focusing on a few key criteria can simplify your decision. Here are the essential factors we evaluated when reviewing the WEN 4800-Watt Portable Inverter Generator.
Power Output and Clean Electricity
The primary job of any generator is to provide power. For sensitive electronics like smartphones, laptops, and even some medical devices, you need what is called “clean power.” Inverter generators produce a stable sine wave, which is safe for these devices, unlike conventional generators that can cause surges. The WEN 4800-Watt Portable Inverter Generator offers up to 4800 surge watts and 4000 rated watts, giving you enough juice to run a refrigerator, a TV, and a few lights simultaneously. This clean power ensures your valuable electronics are protected, making it a solid choice for home backup. Safety Features
Safety should never be an afterthought. The WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor is a standout feature that automatically turns off the generator if dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected. This is a critical safety net for you and your family, especially if you are using the generator near your RV or home. Additionally, the fuel shut-off feature helps limit maintenance by allowing the carburetor to run dry, preventing clogs and extending the life of the generator. These features give you peace of mind, knowing that you are protected from invisible dangers.
Starting Mechanism and Convenience
Nobody wants to struggle with a pull cord, especially in an emergency. The WEN 4800-Watt Portable Inverter Generator features keyless electric start for easy ignitions, along with a recoil start as a backup. This convenience is a game-changer, allowing you to start the generator with the push of a button. It also comes with multiple outlets, including four three-prong 120V receptacles, one TT-30R RV receptacle, one 12V DC receptacle, and two 5V USB ports, ensuring you can power a variety of devices. For a more powerful dual-fuel option, you might also consider the WEN 6800-Watt Dual Fuel model.
